#13 | The AI Content Idea Generator

Hello (AI) Writers,

Writers often say, “The hardest part is getting started.” I get it.

Before turning to AI for help with brainstorming, I’d spend hours organizing my thoughts.

I’d scribble half-baked ideas on sticky notes, jump between tabs, and second-guess every direction.

By the end of it, I wasn’t short on ideas—I was drowning in them, and none of them felt right.

Then I figured out the problem: it wasn’t my creativity that was stuck—it was my process.

When I finally sat down and customized a solid prompt for AI, everything clicked.

I had ten tailored content ideas aligned with my audience and goals.

One of those ideas became my most-read article of the month.

Today, I’m showing you how to skip the overwhelm and unlock AI’s potential for idea generation.

You’ll get:

  • A brief intro to AI as your idea generator.
  • The Content Idea Generator Mega Prompt.
  • Actionable tips to turn AI ideas into polished, impactful content.

Can’t wait to try? Here’s your free Idea Generator mega prompt (easy access).

“The best way to have a good idea is to have a lot of ideas.” – Linus Pauling

AI works at every stage.

Ok, AI has entirely changed the way we approach writing.

It’s not just a tool for editing grammar or drafting text—it’s a brainstorming partner, an organizer, and an efficiency machine.

Here’s how it fits into the writing process:

  1. Idea Generation: The foundation of creativity. AI analyzes your niche and audience to suggest unique, relevant topics.
  2. Content Structuring: Organizes ideas into cohesive outlines, ensuring logical flow and readability.
  3. Drafting and Editing: Generates drafts, refines phrasing, and enhances clarity for polished results.

It’s a vast playground. For now, let’s focus on idea generation, the first and arguably most critical step.

Because even the best outlines or edits can’t fix an empty page.

Why does idea generation feel so hard

Content creation is full of ironies.

You’re supposed to write something that inspires, teaches, or connects, but first, you need to find your own inspiration.

And sometimes, it’s nowhere to be found.

For me, the hardest part has always been knowing where to start. What angle should I take? Will this resonate? Will anyone care?

So, AI unlocks your starting point.

However, it doesn’t replace the hard bit, but it does make starting easier.

When you give AI tools the right inputs, they throw out ideas that are specific, actionable, and ready to shape—even if some land better than others.

What AI brings to the table:

  • Turns vague thoughts into specific angles.
  • Highlights trends you might not have noticed.
  • Gives starting points to refine and build upon.

An example? Last week, I needed blog topics for solopreneurs interested in personal growth.

One AI suggestion—“How to Build Resilience When the World Feels Against You”—was exactly what I needed to spark an article readers might want.

Fancy a try? Let’s look at how you can take the guesswork out of content ideation.

Step 1 – The magic is in the prompt.

Here is your free mega prompt for ChatGPT & Co to generate ideas for any content. The AI Content Idea Generator mega prompt.

Access and copy the prompt in Notion (plus all instructions).

How it helps:

  • Delivers content ideas aligned with your goals and audience.
  • Focuses suggestions on actionable and relevant topics.
  • Simplifies brainstorming, saving time and effort.

If you run the prompt, you’ll get ten ideas in this format or style:

Idea: “The Ultimate Guide to Budget-Friendly Meal Prepping for Busy Professionals”
Summary: A comprehensive guide on planning, preparing, and storing healthy meals without breaking the bank.
Benefit: Saves time, reduces food costs, and promotes healthy eating.
Audience: Cost-conscious young professionals.

Step 2 – AI sparks ideas. You add the soul.

To get the best results, add your information to the prompt.

Be specific with your input and replace the [PLACEHOLDERS] with relevant details.

Let’s break it down with an example.

Placeholder Example:

  • Niche: Small Business Marketing
  • Target Audience: Entrepreneurs
  • Content Type: Blog posts
  • Goal: Increase website traffic
  • Tone/Style: Relatable and professional

AI suggestions (just titles this time):

  1. “10 Marketing Mistakes Small Businesses Can’t Afford to Make”
  2. “5 Social Media Strategies to Boost Engagement Without Paid Ads”
  3. “How to Build a Loyal Customer Base with Authentic Content”

All solid ideas. But raw suggestions aren’t enough.

Step 3 – Tweak, polish, and own It

AI-generated ideas are only the beginning.

Everyone can do this, right?

The real magic happens when you add your voice, your perspective, and your experience.

To do so:

  • Add a story. For “5 Social Media Strategies,” I’d share my own missteps with social media and what finally worked.
  • Personalize the tone. Instead of generic advice, I’d focus on specific tools and tactics entrepreneurs already use.
  • Layer in examples. Examples from real businesses (even my own) make the content relatable and actionable.
  • Focus on the Details. The more specific your examples, the stronger your content becomes.

Tip: Choose an idea you like, add details in the same chat, and ask for 10 refined versions with your tweaks—like stories, tone, or examples. Iterations are the actual hack.

AI isn’t perfect. Use it anyway.

Here’s the truth: AI isn’t flawless, but its flaws are manageable.

  • Repetitive suggestions? Try tweaking the prompt with niche-specific keywords.
  • Broad angles? Narrow them by adding audience-specific challenges.
  • Stiff tone? Adjust it with your voice, humor, or experience.

Think of AI as your brainstorming partner—it gives you the bones, and you bring the heart.

Don’t shy away from iterating your workflow. It will save you time later.

Great content starts with great ideas.

Let’s pull it all together.

A strong idea sets the tone for everything that follows, making the entire writing process feel smoother and more focused.

AI shines by highlighting what truly matters to your audience…

… and by sparking ideas that tackle real challenges and give you back precious time to create.

Paired with your unique perspective, it’s a game-changing combination.

Your turn to create.

Here’s your challenge this week:

  1. Use the Idea Generator Prompt to brainstorm ten content ideas.
  2. Pick the one that excites you most, and add your perspective.
  3. Share it—whether it’s a blog, a post, or a pitch.

What’s the next challenge you want AI to tackle?

Reply and let me know—I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Cheers, Mark
